Georgian scripts have a unique appearance, and their exact origins have never been fully established. However, in terms of structure, their alphabetical order closely corresponds to that of the Greek alphabet. Today, Georgian is written using a 33-letter alphabet, with five of the original letters having become obsolete over time.

Georgian grammar differs significantly from that of European languages and boasts many unique and highly complex features, such as split ergativity and a poly-personal verb agreement system.
